Harriet Tubman

My name is Harriet Tubman.  I was born in the early 1820s.  I was a slave in Maryland.

Harriet Ross was my mom in slavery in Maryland, and my dad also lived in Maryland.

I was the fifth child of a large family.

I decided to escape in 1849.  It was very scary, but I got away to freedom in Pennsylvania.  I went back after I escaped from slavery to get the other slaves.

I died in 1913.
